Program Description:

Pedersen Scholarship

Don and Kathy Pedersen, the Pedersen Family Foundation, and the University of Utah Division of Physician Assistant Education and Sciences are pleased to announce the availability of competitive scholarships for University of Utah Physician Assistant students.

Selection Criteria

Preference will be given to Physician Assistant student applicants who:

  • Are matriculated (degree seeking) students in the University of Utah School of Medicine Physician Assistant Education and Sciences program.
  • Demonstrate past commitment to working with underserved populations.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Plan to practice primary care medicine (family practice, general internal medicine, and general pediatrics in an underserved setting after graduation.
  • Program’s Commitment

Program’s Commitment

Scholarship recipients will be awarded funds to help offset the cost of attending international rotations.

The number of qualified applicants and the performance of the interest bearing account of the endowment will determine the amount and number of awards in any given year.

At present the funds will be made available to use for Spring Semester of the student’s clinical year.

Recipient’s Commitment

It is our goal that the award recipient, upon graduation from the Utah Physician Assistant Program, will demonstrate a commitment to working with underserved populations in some capacity.  This could entail full-time, part-time, volunteering on a regular basis, or implementing a community service project to benefit the graduate’s local community.

Eligibility

In general, scholarship funds exist for students’ use during the clinical year of the program. This does not preclude any future electives developed for the pre-clinical year. Only University of Utah Physician Assistant students who are advancing successfully through the Physician Assistant program are eligible to apply.

Scholarship deadline is for all Physician Assistant Studies program terms (Winter Break, Spring, and Summer) in the calendar year.
