If you haven't done any international travelling in the past, and want this to be your first experience, this is a good way to do it. That was the perspective I was coming into this with and I was not disappointed. While I didn't have the the Spanish skills to do a lot on my own, I learned tons through my own observations and through asking my more spanish-skilled friends, and got to scratch the surface of a really beautiful culture, and hope to return to learn more.

This program was fantastic and was easily the highlight of my college career. I would recommend this to everyone, even if they aren't an anthropology major. It was fantastic and a great mix of learning and doing work, while also being able to go out and interact with the community of Todos Santos and the wonderful people who live there. It helps if you know Spanish, but it's not a big deal if you don't. Everyone was so friendly (students, staff, and people of Todos Santos!) and I would totally suggest this field school to everyone. We got to camp on an island that is a national park and also snorkel while learning about the people who lived there and the history of the Baja peninsula. Shane is super knowledgeable and shares that knowledge enthusiastically with students, and is happy to answer any and all questions about the area. Easily the best experience of my life. Please go!!!!!

I absolutely loved this program!! I would recommend to anyone that wants to do something fun in their time at the U, but still want to learn about research in the field and participate in a lot of really cool activities. I feel like so much was covered in the short time we were there, and I learned so much while having so much fun! Professor Macfarlan is the greatest and most enthusiastic teacher who really cared about everything he taught us while in Baja, which made it more engaging for everyone. It is a great balance of work and fun and the perfect short field school experience!
