LEARNING ABROAD

The DIS Summer in Scandinavia program is fast-paced, high-quality, and immersive. The professors are experts in their field with experience applying their studies to the real world. The week-long study tours across Europe are unique and incredible opportunities to receive first-hand instructions and apply your learning. It is a great program for students who want to study abroad but do not want to sacrifice a semester of U of U credits.

The DIS program is incredible and simple as far as travel abroad goes. The teachers and classes were a blast and they helped give a community even while far away from home. Most of the logistics are handled by DIS which also allows students to focus on their trip and studies instead of worrying about housing or tickets. The only downside of the program is that there is such a good fostering of community with other abroad students that they are most often the people around you rather than locals. There are plenty of opportunities to immerse further if you wish though.

My time with DIS was fantastic and life-changing. For any students who are nervous about full-language immersion and would prefer courses taught in English--that still provide unique perspectives--DIS is for you!

You will most likely still be surrounded by the American culture since your classmates are all students from America. In order to immerse yourself more with the people and the culture, you have to try to put yourself out there outside of the classroom setting and maybe even outside of the DIS student group. It would feel a little uncomfortable and sound like it is a lot more work to do at first. Making friends with students at your accommodation and volunteering opportunities is what I did.

I absolutely enjoyed my time while in Copenhagen, I hope to come back again soon!

DIS Study Abroad in Scandinavia is an incredible program. They along with the U think of every step students need to take to ensure students get the most potential out of the experience as possible. Scandinavian countries aren't the hot spot for studying abroad so many people don't think about them as an option but trust me it is even better that it is less explored by American students, which means that you get to do the exploring.

It was a life-changing experience. Help was there when you needed it but not overbearing, allowing you to feel like you lived there and learn how to navigate independently.
