Take a deep dive into environmental issues in a country that's renowned for its amazing biodiversity while improving your Spanish language fluency and discovering local culture. Along with environmental science courses, you'll choose from a range of liberal arts courses with a Costa Rican focus in areas such as economics, health sciences, political science, photography, and cultural studies. Designed for all levels of proficiency, you'll take one or more Spanish language courses and choose from a range of electives taught in English. Students at the advanced Spanish language level may choose to take electives taught in Spanish. An Early Start option, offered for semester programs, helps you jump start your Spanish language skills before the semester begins.

Our partner institution, Veritas University, is known for its commitment to students from around the world; about 25% of the 2,000-member student body is international. Veritas offers a range of courses in fields like architecture, business, cultural studies, design, environmental science, health sciences, studio arts, and zoology. Courses are taught in English, and Spanish Language courses are available for all levels. The spacious, modern campus is located in the quiet Zapote District, just east of downtown San José and home to the Casa Presidencial. Students receive a transcript from Veritas University upon completion of their program.

Learn more about fundingAn Affiliate is a partner organization that is evaluated and approved by the University of Utah. Affiliates offer classes in both English and the host language. You may take classes with other U.S. students, international students, or students from the host country. Many affiliates provide special services such as visa support, housing, cultural excursions, and on-site staffing to help you navigate your host country.
As a University of Utah student, you will automatically receive an affiliate grant when you study abroad with CEA CAPA. Academic Year: $1500; Semester: $750; Summer: $300.
