Program Description:

Environmental & Sustainability Studies in Costa Rica

DESCRIPTIONEnvironmental Studies Sloth2

About the size of West Virginia and with a population of almost 4 million, Costa Rica is an exemplar for the conservation of natural resources and economic sustainability. Costa Rica's traditional agricultural export economy (including coffee and bananas) has been supplanted by tourism and high tech exports. A critical component aiding the rise of eco-tourism in Costa Rica has been the introduction of sustainable infrastructure systems supporting sustainable development. Participants will study the impacts of ancient farming methods, food production, tourism, and land conservation on Costa Rica’s environment.
