Program Description:

DESCRIPTION

 
  • Ranked 50th in the world in the 2016/17 QS World Rankings and consistently within Australia's top three universities, the University of Sydney is a leading research university and is committed to offering the very best teaching and learning environment for their students. 
  • The University of Sydney offers the largest selection of units in Australia. Each unit of study is taught in an intensive format, while maintaining credit point values and academic integrity. Many hands-on experiential learning in an Australian cultural context. Students can choose 1 or 2 units of study in either session, one of which can be a credit-bearing internship. 
  • Located on the doorstep of Sydney, you can wander to the Opera House, take a bus to Bondi Beach, ride a train to the Blue Mountains, or hop on a flight to explore the Great Barrier Reef or New Zealand. The city of Sydney has numerous cultural events and festivals to keep you entertained throughout your stay.

APPLYING TO A U of U AFFILIATE PROGRAM

U of U students participating on this program are required to submit TWO applications that can be completed at the same time:
  1. U of U Learning Abroad Application
    • Attend Learning Abroad 101
    • Click on the Apply Now button at the top of the page
    • Submit an initial payment to Learning Abroad
    • Receive email notification through Umail when U of U Learning Abroad Application is Nominated and/or Accepted
    • Log back in to Commit to your program
    • During the intended term abroad Learning Abroad will enroll you in the required International Medical and Emergency Evacuation Insurance through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI)
      • The CISI policy typically costs $40-50 per month and will be charged to your University of Utah tuition account
  2. U of U Affiliate Application
    • Click on the Homepage link above
    • Receive approval to participate from U of U Learning Abroad Coordinator
    • Receive an update directly from the U of U Affiliate regarding U of U Affiliate Application status
      • Upload a copy of your acceptance letter to your U of U Learning Abroad Application
    • The majority of the fees associated with this program will be paid directly to the affiliate and are subject to the withdrawal and refund policies of the affiliate

ACADEMICS & ACCOMMODATION

  • Courses and accommodation are organized by the Affiliate program: (Click on the Homepage link above)
  • Credits earned through a U of U Affiliate Program will be transfer credits
  • See the Learning Abroad Handbook, for information about Course Pre-Approval for transfer credits
  • Participants are required to maintain full-time status (the equivalent of 12 U.S. American Credits) at the University of Utah (fall and spring semesters ONLY)

DATES

  • Find TENTATIVE program dates above
  • Participants are responsible for arranging travel to and from the host country for most programs
  • Participants should wait to purchase airfare until they have been officially instructed by the Faculty Director, Program Provider, and/or Host University
  • Participants should compare the program dates to the University of Utah academic calendar

In addition to taking classes, students enrich their time abroad by participating in Learning Abroad Badge opportunities such as, Career Development, Language Immersion, Research Experience, and Community Engagement:

The Learning Abroad Badges listed in the Fact Sheet above are included in this program. Some programs offer opportunities to earn additional Learning Abroad Badges through independent options.  Students interested in earning multiple Learning Abroad Badges can participate in the Global U Program and receive special recognition at graduation.

FINANCES

  • Summer Schools are NOT considered a U of U Exchange (Students do NOT pay tuition to the U of U)
  • Click on the Homepage link above for information about ESTIMATED costs paid to the affiliate
  • Students pay a separate initial payment and the cost of international insurance to U of U Learning Abroad
  • Participants should read the full Withdrawal Penalty Policy BEFORE applying
  • Scholarships are available for Degree-Seeking, University of Utah students
  • Financial Aid might apply, visit your Financial Aid Counselor for more information

LEARNING ABROAD HANDBOOK

The Learning Abroad Handbook outlines the University of Utah's eligibility requirements, financial policies, conduct standards, administrative procedures, academic expectations, as well as visa and passport guidelines for Learning Abroad Programs. ALL participants are subject to the rules and regulations in the Learning Abroad Handbook. It is every participant's responsibility to read the Learning Abroad Handbook and contact Learning Abroad with any questions.
