Explore this favorite tourist destination and experience the city’s iconic sites, from the Champs-Élysées to the Cathedral of Notre Dame; discover its power and prominence in finance and commerce; immerse yourself and enrich your education and cultural fluency.

and daily rituals of French life by spending a weekend with a local Parisian family in a homestay.

TAKE A LITERATURE, LANGUAGE,

film, or philosophy class at the Université Paris Diderot – Paris 7, located near the Bibliothèque Nationale or the Cinémathèque Française - known for its interdisciplinary approach to the study of humanities and sciences.

Excursions & Activities

  • Participate in two-night, three-day study tours to another region in France or to a neighboring country.
  • Meet young locals through a vibrant language exchange with Parisians; volunteer with one of our community service partners; or discover your own passion with an interest group in music, sports, art, or film! Live just minutes from the breathtaking works of art at the Louvre, Grands Boulevards, and the Palais-Royal.
  • Explore the hidden corners of Paris culture, art, and society through two extra-curricular activities a week.
  • Treat yourself to fresh baguettes and croissants at every boulangerie and take a stroll in the gorgeous squares and parks that line the city.

Projects

  • Volunteering. There are volunteer opportunities at sports clubs, arts organizations, youth centers, churches, schools, and other community organizations.
  • Students interested in one of the following Academic Projects must submit additional materials as part of their course selection:
  • Internships. Build new skills and intercultural competencies through the CIEE Internship, and become an active member of the Paris professional environment.
  • Research. Pursue a research project of your own design incorporating independent, local field-work.
  • Service-learning. Combine course-based learning with practical, relevant project experience to meet a community-defined need.

WHAT IS AN AFFILIATE?

An Affiliate is a partner organization that is evaluated and approved by the University of Utah. Affiliates offer classes in both English and the host language. You may take classes with other U.S. students, international students, or students from the host country. Many affiliates provide special services such as visa support, housing, cultural excursions, and on-site staffing to help you navigate your host country.

APPLYING TO AN AFFILIATE PROGRAM

  1. Complete Learning Abroad 101. This is a short information session about programs, applications, financial aid, and scholarships. You can complete Learning Abroad 101 online.
  2. Submit your Applications. You will submit TWO Applications for this Program. These Applications can be completed at the same time.
    • U of U Application- Click Apply Now at the top of your screen to get started 
    • Affiliate Application- Click on the Homepage link above to find your Affiliate Application. Contact the Affiliate if you have questions.
  3. Commit to your U of U Application. You will receive an acceptance email to your Umail account. Log into your U of U Application and Commit to your Program within 3 business days of acceptance!
  4. Complete the Post-Decision Steps. Finish the Post-Decision steps in your U of U Application by the deadlines provided.

  • TENTATIVE dates are listed above. Compare the dates to the University of Utah academic calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • You are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the host country for most Programs.
  • Do not purchase your flight until you read the instructions in the Learning Abroad Handbook.

  • Affiliate Program Fees (non-billable) are established by the Affiliate and are in addition to any fees paid to the University of Utah. For non-traditional abroad students (STEM majors) I would highly recommend this program because of how flexible it is. I was able to check off all the travel I wanted to do while still earning credit towards graduation. CIEE offers so many locations that there is something for everyone who wants to go abroad. If you are even thinking about it, do it. It's the experience of a lifetime and there is so much you have to gain from the international experience.
